We received a very warm welcome at the UCA in Rochester last week when we went along to present the certificates, prizes and winner’s trophy for the 2015 CHEMSET Design Awards competition to the 3rd year silversmithing and contemporary jewellery students. We have been sponsoring this ‘Live Project’ since 2010 and we always find the students’ designs very inspiring. This year’s brief was to create a piece of jewellery based on the theme ‘Set in Colour’. The finalists were:
Winner – Sarah Wright
Joint 2nd – Gabrielle Callender and Abigail Organ
Highly Commended – Zara Bulllen and Leah Wadey
Commended – Kim Edmead, Louise Fraser and Justyna Kus
We as judges could not agree on 2nd and 3rd places as the items were both of a very high standard. As a result we awarded two 2nd places instead of the usual 2nd and 3rd.
Whilst we were at the UCA we met the new 2nd year students and gave them an introduction to the CHEMSET Enamelling Resins range in preparation for their live project which will take place during the spring term. This year we have given the students the choice of Casting or Enamelling with our materials. We’ve heard they’re a great set of students so we look forward to seeing some brilliant pieces.
