On 31st January (2019) we celebrated our 50th trading year – not bad these days with the markets as they are. We have seen one or two recessions in that time too!

We celebrated in style though, taking a steam train, the Cathedral Express (No. 44871 for train enthusiasts) to Winchester Christmas Market. The day began with breakfast on the train, followed by coffee and croissants. The weather was lovely and clear as we puffed though the countryside in our vintage carriage.

At Chertsey we all stretched our legs whilst the Cathedral Express took on water. The arrival of a local train provided a unique photo opportunity for the Chertsey History Society, the sight of an old and new train side-by-side in the station. We disembarked at Alton and took a coach to Winchester where we had a lovely time looking around the Christmas Market stalls and watching the ice skaters. We even had a little snow flurry!

The coach then took us back to Alresford to meet the train, pulled by a diesel engine this time, for our return to Kent. En-route we enjoyed an amazing 4 course dinner with an endless supply of hot drinks.

This was a truly wonderful day out and we would like to thank Steam Dreams for making it a really memorable experience.
